The DotNetNuke Review Program was created with the intent to aid developers and designers, by providing prescriptive guidance so that their modules and skins meet rigorous quality standards.  The program also benefits consumers; allowing them to easily identify modules, skins and vendors which meet predefined quality criteria.  The review criteria can be broken down into 3 broad categories:

1. The module/skin meets defined quality criteria
2. The module/skin uses established DotNetNuke framework features
3. The module/skin vendor provides defined levels of documentation and support

The Review Program follows a tiered approach, with each tier being more rigorous and in-depth than the preceeding tier.  Currently, Tier One is the only review being offered.  Additional tiers will be added in the coming months.

Module and Skin review guidelines are broken down into three categories:

1. Mandatory
2. Elective
3. Optional

Mandatory guidelines define tests which every module or skin must pass in order to pass the review.  Elective guidelines define a series of tests and provides some leeway for developers to choose from a list of alternative implementations for a given guideline.  Finally, optional guidelines describe a number of features which are recommended, but not mandatory for a product to pass the review. 

One of our primary goals when developing the guidelines was to define a set of quality criteria which every vendor should be able to meet, even though in some cases their module or skin needs to deviate from the standards due to the nature of the module or skin.
